We source our materials with care, we reduce and where possible eliminate waste by-products from our construction process. We manufacture energy efficient conservatories and orangeries.
One of the largest raw materials used in the construction of our conservatories is timber. All timber purchases are made from a recognised source and have come from a company that is a member of the 'Forests Forever' campaign and have signed a rigorous environmental and purchasing policy agreed with the World Wildlife Fund. The aim of the campaign is to safeguard the forests of the world by improving forest management, responsible trading and promoting the positive environmental aspects of using timber. Remember that wood is a natural proven product, it is aesthetically pleasing, organic, non-toxic, recyclable, bio degradable and renewable. It also takes less energy to convert into a useful product than most alternative materials including metals and UPVC. How 'green' is a plastic or aluminum conservatory?
Our paints and stains used to provide the workshop applied finish are all water-based as opposed to solvent based products. This means that all waste by-products are not as harmful to the environment. The residue from these products are not washed into the main soil drainage system but are collected in a sealed appropriately labeled container to be taken away and disposed of properly. This ensures that our waste products are not helping to pollute rivers and streams and helps to avoid the damage caused to the environment by such pollution.
Having purchased the raw timber there are various machining processes, which must be undertaken before that timber can become a component of one of our conservatories or orangeries. The wood waste produced from these processes is collected is collected from the machines via our dust extraction system. The residue collected during this process is fed into a boiler furnace where it is burned at high temperature to provide heat back to the workshop and paint shop. This supplementary heat provides approximately 50% of our total heat requirements, thus reducing the amount of fossil fuel used by us.
We are continually striving to produce more efficient conservatories and orangeries in terms of heat loss and energy conservation. All our brick bases are fully insulated, our concrete ground floor slabs incorporate insulation, the windows and doors are fully draught proofed and all the glass used in the conservatory or orangery is construction is double-glazed sealed units for optimum heat retention. All of this coupled with the fact that wood is one of the most thermally efficient materials available, we hope helps to significantly reduce the amount of energy expended in the day to use of your conservatory or orangery. |
